SML-area restaurants making changes

Following are some changes under way at area restaurants.

El Corral

The former Cool Branch Bar & Grill is now El Corral, a Mexican restaurant. It opened Feb. 23 on the south side of the lake in the Pittsylvania portion of Penhook.

"There was nothing over here except hamburger places," said Russell Tipton, owner. "And to be honest, I got tired of the bar scene and the late hours. I just wanted to switch it up."

El Corral is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

3585 Smith Mountain Road, Penhook. (434) 927-4300.

Nobologna

The sub sandwiches and deli shop is adding fish to its offerings. Ralph "Rich" Richards of Nobologna said they plan to add a fresh seafood takeout-business in late April or early May.

Dubbed Fish on the Fly, the business, which will open in a small building beside Nobologna, will offer fresh fish, as well as clams and shrimp. Lobster will be available by special order.

Richards said Nobologna will begin accepting credit and debit cards and adding additional seating before Memorial Day.

13850 Booker T. Washington Highway, Moneta. 721-1414.

Dudley Mart Restaurant

Darrel Combs, who owns Dudley Mart Restaurant with his wife Yana, said the restaurant was to be open for regular business hours starting Thursday. For a few weeks, the restaurant has been closed Monday through Wednesday for spring cleaning and painting, he said.

Combs said he will start offering ribs again on Thursday nights when the nights are warmer and the sun sets later. The Dudley Mart's annual horseshoe competitions will begin in April.
