Ball to benefit American Heart Association
The American Heart Association's semi-formal ball to support research and education is coming to Mariners Landing in time for Valentine's Day.
"We had always wanted to do a heart ball at Smith Mountain Lake," said Elizabeth Vail, of the AHA. "We're just thrilled."
The semi-formal event (jacket and tie required, black-tie optional) will be held Saturday, Feb. 13, starting at 6:30 p.m. It will include live music by 58 West, a four-course meal and wines, and a live auction. Individual or business donations still are being accepted for the auction.
"We're hoping this will be a signature event every year," said Holly Sweet, who is coordinating the event for Mariners Landing.
Tickets are $75 for the event, or $100 for the event and overnight accommodations at Mariners Landing. About 120 tickets are available and reservations are due by Feb. 9.
Vail said the AHA has hosted a Heart Ball in Roanoke for about 25 years. Balls are held annually across the nation to support AHA's efforts.
"Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of men and women, and stroke is the No. 3 killer," said Vail. "The funds that we're raising for the Heart Ball will go to support life-saving cardiovascular research and quality community educational programs."
