Revamped Poker Run beginning to fill up
If you want to participate in the new and improved Tom Maynard Memorial Poker Run, you might want to go ahead and sign up.
According to Chuck Poss, president of the Smith Mountain Lake Boating Association, which sponsors the annual event, a third of the 75 boat slots already have been filled. Poss said he has received registrations for the May 21-22 Poker Run from six different states. They include a variety of boats — from a 20-foot ponton to a 43-foot performance boat.
“For some reason, our local players have a tendency to wait ‘til the last minute to register,” said Poss. “This event is going to be a sellout, by all indications, and I do not want our local folks to be disappointed.”
The 13th Maynard Memorial Poker Run has been revamped and relocated to Mariners Landing in Huddleston. Condos are available at a reduced rate and courtesy slips will be provided during the weekend of the Run. A dinner at Benjamin’s at the Pointe, live entertainment, and access to pool and golf will be available to participants.
The traditional Friday night welcome party will be held at Mango’s at Bridgewater Plaza and will feature a barbecue and beer dinner followed by live entertainment.
