Sponsors, golfers needed

The Moneta Lions Club is seeking sponsors for its 10th annual Golf Outing to be held April 26 at Mariners Landing Golf and Country Club. Money raised will be used by Lions in their community outreach programs.

Individuals or businesses can sponsor a hole for $65. The outing is open to the first 25 teams to sign up. Early registration by April 19 is $65 per golfer.

Tourney sponsors needed

Bethlehem United Methodist Church is soliciting sponsors for its second annual Charity Golf and Tennis Tournament to be held May 10 at The Westlake Golf & Country Club. Donations will be distributed among seven area charities.

Sponsorship levels are: $1,000 gold sponsor, includes team entry and event dinner for four; $500 silver, includes team entry and dinner for two; $250 bronze, includes dinner for four; $100 hole sponsor.

Scholarships available

The Smith Mountain American Association of University Women is offering scholarships for women enrolled in a university, college or community college. Women must have earned a high school diploma or GED and must reside permanently in Bedford, Franklin or Pittsylvania counties.

The one-time $1,000 scholarship will be forwarded to the college and is for tuition only. Achievement, financial need, potential and character will be considered in selecting the award recipient.

Fundraiser for Perriello planned

The SML Democrats is hosting a fundraiser for Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Albemarle, on April 18 at White Rock Vineyards & Winery in Goodview. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Perriello and other Democratic party leaders will be on hand. Live music, a silent auction and a VIP reception are planned.

Contributions are as follows: $50, tasters; $100, winemaker (gift or original art cards); $250, host (VIP reception, program mention); and $500, sponsor (VIP reception, program mention).

VDH seeks volunteers

The West Piedmont Health District of the Virginia Department of Health is looking for medical and nonmedical residents to serve on its Medical Reserve Corps. The MRC is a specialized component of the Citizen Corps, a national network of volunteers dedicated to ensuring hometown security.

Volunteers can assist in public health emergencies such as the H1N1 pandemic and nonemergency public health services such as education and community outreach.
