Eight homes will be open for 20th Charity Home Tour

The tour, which benefits area charities, will be Oct. 1-2.

Eight homes around the lake will be open to the public for the 20th anniversary Smith Mountain Lake Charity Home Tour.

Proceeds from the tour, which will be held Oct. 1-2 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., will benefit local charities whose emphasis is placed on delivery of food, clothing and shelter and on the health and safety of the community.

The Platinum Charity Ball, which will honor the 2010 homeowners and sponsors, will be held Sept. 10 at Bernard's Landing. Open to the public, the gala will feature food prepared by Jim Schaal Catering, a cash bar, dancing to the Breeze Brothers, a raffle, and silent and live auctions.

The following lake residents have agreed to showcase their homes:

  • Jim and Mary Lou Gaffney, 2363 Capewood Drive, Huddleston
