Pageants seek contestants

Applications are being accepted for the Miss Smith Mountain Lake Outstanding Teen and Outstanding Preteen pageants to be held Oct. 2 at Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke.

Teen contestants must be 13 to 17 years old and cannot be high school seniors; Preteens must be 9 to 12 years old. Contestants do not have to live at Smith Mountain Lake, but must live or attend school in Virginia.

Contestants will be judged on a private interview, fitness wear, evening wear and talent.

Winners will compete in the Miss Virginia Outstanding Teen and Outstanding Preteen pageants in Roanoke in June.

Registration is $140 through Sept. 1, when it will go up to $160. Sponsors and scholarship sponsors also are being accepted.

Tickets to the pageant are $10 and will be sold at the door.

A separate pageant for Miss SML is tentatively scheduled for January. Contestants must be 17 to 24 years old and be at least high school seniors. They must live, work or attend school in Virginia.
