Versatile entertainer coming to Smith Mountain Lake

Ronny Cox will perform Sept. 17 at Trinity Ecumenical Parish.

Smith Mountain Arts Council (SMAC) will present Ronny Cox, an actor, songwriter, storyteller and musician, in a coffeehouse on Friday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. at Trinity Ecumenical Parish on Virginia 122 and Lakemount Drive in Moneta.

Cox, who has been performing for more than 40 years, had his first movie role as the guitar player in the iconic "Dueling Banjos" scene in "Deliverance." From there, he went on to appear in "Bound for Glory," "Total Recall," "Robocop," "Beverly Hills Cop" and "Stargate."

In addition to his acting career on the big screen, he has had countless roles in television series such as "Law and Order," "Spencer," "Family Ties," "St. Elsewhere" and "Star Trek: The Next Generation."

In 1993, Cox released his first country album, "Ronny Cox," for Mercury Records. In 2000, he released "Acoustic Eclectricity," a folk album. It was followed by a number of other albums.

"I enjoy all kinds of music and I try to bring that eclectic approach to the music I play," Cox said.
