Take Pride seeking volunteers
Twenty-fifth annual event needs hundreds to help remove debris from the lake.
Dust off your waders and grab some garbage bags. The 25th annual Take Pride in Smith Mountain Lake Cleanup Day is Saturday, May 5. For the 8 a.m.-to-4 p.m.event, area residents will be volunteering to haul debris, large and small, from the lake to prepare the waterway for the boating season.
Although registration is not required, registrants will receive supplies to help aid in the trash pickup, as well as gloves and a Take Pride in SML T-shirt. Registration forms can be filled out at the Tri-County Lake Administrative Commission's office at The Plaza on Scruggs Road in Moneta. Forms are due today.
Participants can unload collected debris at one of 11 drop-off sites around the lake. The sites are:
