Chris Cameron named honorary chairman of walk

Event will be held in memory of her late husband, who was executive director of Lake Christian Ministries.

Chris Cameron, wife of the late James Allison Cameron III, who served as executive director of Lake Christian Ministries, will serve as honorary chairman of the inaugural Jim Cameron Memorial Walk.

Cameron joins Bart Matthies, general chairman of the walk, which will take place Saturday, Sept. 22 at Smith Mountain Lake State Park.

"We are both honored and fortunate that Chris has agreed to step into this role, knowing that she will share her passion and determination with all who are involved," said Mike Bond, executive director of Lake Christian Ministries.

"I am delighted to serve as honorary chairman for this memorial walk that honors Jim's work with Lake Christian Ministries as well as the legacy he left for his family, friends and the Smith Mountain Lake community," said Cameron. "Jim cherished the talents that all the volunteers brought to their work at LCM and tried to maximize their skills and knowledge in shaping the ministry and its capabilities. He would be so pleased to know that the proceeds from the walk will enable the work that he loved so much to continue."

In addition to volunteer activities at LCM, Cameron is a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church at Trinity Ecumenical Parish where she serves in several capacities, is a member of Scrappy Quilters and voluteers for Carilion Clinic Hospice of Franklin County and the Smith Mountain Lake Charity Home Tour. She is an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Smith Mountain Lake where Jim Cameron was an active member for many years.
