Ridgeway golfer takes Haley title

Sarafina Sampson of Danville was the winner in the Girls Division of the Andrew Haley Memorial/SML Lions Junior Golf Tournament with a 177.

Jonathan Davis of Advance N.C., took top honors in the Boys Rookie Division.

Among the participants was Grayson Stoneman of Franklin County.

Dylan Jensen of Ridgeway shot a two-day score of 143 to take the Senior Division title in the 20th annual Andrew Haley Memorial/Smith Mountain Lake Lions Junior Golf Tournament Monday and Tuesday. Jensen was 3 under par at Mariners Landing and carded a 74 the final day at The Waterfront Country Club.

The event, one of the premier junior golf tournaments in southwest Virginia, consisted of 36 holes of stroke play over two days. Sarafina Sampson of Danville won the girls Senior Division with a score of 177. Nick Brediger of Roanoke won the Boys Junior Division with a 155, and Jonathan W. Davis of Advance N.C., was the winner in the Boys Rookie Division with a 153.

The Andrew Haley Memorial Scholarship Fund will award two scholarships each in the amount of $750. The recipients will be announced at the conclusion of the tournament. Participants in the tournament who are 16-18 are eligible to submit a scholarship application. The scholarship awards will not be based on individual performance in the tournament.
