"Knot on Call"

Sam & Lori Hurt's Smith Mountain Lake Boat

Berthed in a quiet cove midway up the Blackwater River, Knot on Call is a 2001 Sea Ray Sundeck 240 that awaits those precious times when physician Sam Hurt can leave his urology practice in Martinsville and spend time at the home he shares with wife Lori and their three dogs. (The couple’s daughters – Maggie, 21, and Carly, 19 – live there, too, when not in college in North Carolina.)

“He wanted to be able to say he was ‘not on call’ when we were on the boat,” Lori Hurt explained. “So the name was a natural.”

While their home was built in 2001, it wasn’t until last year that the Hurts moved to Smith Mountain Lake full time.

“We found that our weekend ventures kept turning into longer and longer stays,” Lori Hurt said. “Once Sam was commuting most days anyway, we gave in to the inevitable.”

The Hurts especially enjoy cruising on the Blackwater River near their home and making the short, pleasant ride to Mexico Viejo at Crazy
Horse Marina.

“We used to enjoy watching the jumpers at the Cliffs, too, but that’s pretty well over,”
she said.

Fortunately, when it comes to the Hurts’ enjoyment of boating on Smith Mountain Lake, Knot on Call is just what the doctor ordered.
