The Story Behind the Name

“After Five”

Evenings are a great time to be on the lake. Boat traffic drops off considerably, the winds die down, and then there are those spectacular sunsets.
So it’s not surprising to see “After Five” lettered on the transom of an SML family runabout. However, in Rick and Karen Zagol’s case, “After Five” on the stern of their 21-foot Ebbtide runabout refers not just to a time of day but to a time of life.
“We became Lakers only after our five children had grown and left the nest,” Karen Zagol said, referring to the two boys and three girls the couple raised in Berwyn, Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia.
With their family now expanded to include four spouses and four grandchildren (plus another on the way), the Zagols said     they love how the lake helps maintain family togetherness.
“Our kids are scattered from Florida to Ohio,” Karen said. “Despite really busy schedules, they all manage to spend time at the lake every now and then.”
The Zagols also enjoy taking “After Five” for what Karen calls “our little adventures on the lake”— boat rides from their home near B25 to lunch at destinations like The Boathouse at Indian Pointe Marina and Marina Cafe at Mitchell’s Point.
“After Five” also serves as a great family swim platform.
“The three oldest grandkids just can’t get enough of jumping off the swim platform and floating on their life vests in deep water,” Karen said.
Added Rick: “It doesn’t get any better than SML. You try to tell people about the views and the fresh water and the dock-to-dock neighboring, [but] they just can’t fully appreciate it unless they’ve been here and experienced it.”
