Identity of gunshot victim not released

An unidentified person died from an apparent gunshot wound Saturday, Dec. 26, in the vicinity of Lake Plaza on Scruggs Road in Moneta, the shopping center that includes Joe's Pizza and Poofy Pets Boutique.

"We had a DOA [dead on arrival] call at that address," said Billy Ferguson, Franklin County's public safety operations chief.

Ferguson said a gunshot wound was involved, although he said he was not able to elaborate on the incident.

Calls to the Franklin County Sheriff's Department were not immediately returned.
