It was a busy weekend and President's Day for the Moneta Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to responding to a number of calls for car wrecks and chimney fires over the weekend and five calls on Monday, 11 volunteers were dispatched to 1700 Rock Spring Road on Sunday morning to a reported sledding accident, according to Pete Lewis, department president. Lewis said a sled carrying a 14-year-old girl apparently had gone over a creek bed and landed in a creek. The girl, whose name was not released, may have suffered a broken leg, said Lewis. She was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
