Water Authority, Scruggs Road subdivisions hooked up
Work on the water line began in October 2009.
The Western Virginia Water Authority has finished hooking up subdivisions along Scruggs Road in Moneta. Sarah Baumgardner, environmental communications coordinator for WVWA, said The Waterfront, The Boardwalk and Windmere Point all were connected to WVWA's system earlier this week.
Baumgardner said the subdivision's wells will be maintained by WVWA, but will not be used as a water source for the residents. The Scruggs water line, which connects at Virginia 122 and extends across Hales Ford Bridge, carries water from WVWA's Bedford County water plant.
The Water Authority began installing the line in October 2009. Communities and residents along the Scruggs corridor were given the option to transfer their water systems to WVWA for a one-time connection and availability fee.
In a December interview, Baumgardner said the transfers were optional, but it could be mandatory in the future if the wells of those who declined fail.
