Scholarship open for art-degree students
Applications are due by March 23.
Smith Mountain Arts Council (SMAC) is accepting applications for two $2,000 two-year scholarships for seniors attending Franklin County High School, Gretna High School or Staunton River High School, or home-schooled seniors in those high schools' geographic areas.
Students must be seeking a degree in performing, visual or literary arts from a two- or four-year accredited college or university to qualify. Winning students will receive a $1,000 scholarship for each of the first two years of enrollment. To be eligible for the second-year payment, students must submit transcripts showing progress in their chosen fields to the SMAC Scholarship Committee.
The SMAC Scholarship Committee will select the recipients based on artistic career goals, artistic activities, arts-related awards and honors, academic awards and honors, high school and community activities, and work experience.
Complete application guidelines and the application form can be found on the SMAC website. Students must work with their guidance departments or home-school coordinators to gather the following documents: completed application forms, samples of artistic work, high school transcripts and three letters of recommendation.
Applications must be received by the SMAC Scholarship Committee no later than March 23.
