Amazing Autumn

Savor the sights of fall on Smith Mountain Lake

One especially nice thing about Smith Mountain Lake is that the boating season doesn’t end when the heat of summer fades away.

In fact, jacket weather — when the traffic is light, the sun is kinder and the leaves are showcasing an extravaganza of color — is a wonderful time to be out on the water.

An excursion last fall along the upper Roanoke River, from Hales Ford Bridge to R70, yielded the images for this feature. We hope they’ll encourage you to get out a last time or two and enjoy the beautiful fall colors found all around the lake, but especially well up the Roanoke.

If you capture any pictures you think are particularly outstanding, be sure to e-mail them to us for possible publication in Laker Weekly or on our Web site, smithmountainlake.com. Send your best shots to editor@smithmountainlaker.com.
