Full day planned for visitors to Boomers & Beyond Expo

Today's Boomers & Beyond Expo will be held at Smith Mountain Lake Retirement Village behind Kroger at Westlake.

Today's Boomers & Beyond Expo will be held at Smith Mountain Lake Retirement Village behind Kroger at Westlake.

The second annual Boomers & Beyond Expo at the Lake starts this morning at 10 and will continue until 6 p.m. at Smith Mountain Lake Retirement Village at Westlake Towne Center in Hardy. The event will feature educational events, food, door prizes and Caribbean music by Tracy Thornton.

Also featured will be two workshops on health and wellness. The first, "The Role of Nutrition in Preventative Medicine," will start at 10 a.m. and will be presented by Rebeccah R. Hunt, R.N. and coordinator of preventive cardiology for the Jamerson Family YMCA in Lynchburg. The 11 a.m. workshop, presented by Kelly Arter, wellness coordinator and health advocate, will focus on nutrition and lifestyle choices.

The workshops will be followed by a barbecue lunch on the lawn. The cost of the meal will help fund Runk and Pratt's Memory Walk team.

The Expo, from 1:30 until 6 p.m., will feature exhibitors who will provide information about financial and legal services, health care options, and health and wellness planning. Admission to the Expo is free.

The event is sponsored by Runk & Pratt, Gentle Shepherd Hospice, Centra Health, Senior News, Humana and Carilion Home Care. Door prize drawings will be throughout the day.
