Preparations are underway for the sixth annual Franklin County Agricultural Fair set for Sept. 18 through 21 at the Franklin County Recreation Park in Rocky Mount.
This year’s fair will include live shows, competitive exhibits, agricultural education and amusement park rides and games. Festivities are scheduled to kick off with the fifth annual Miss Franklin County Agricultural Fair pageant on Aug. 10 and the Franklin County Open Horse Show on Sept. 14.
When the fair opens Sept. 18, it feature five live shows, including The Great Lakes Timber Show, as well as the Barnyard Revue, racing pigs, a mobile dairy classroom and the Cowboy Circus with Danny Grant, which are all new.
In addition, competitive exhibits will feature agriculture-related skills, plus highlight locally grown produce and locally made products.
Earlier this year, staff from the fair attended the 2019 Virginia Association of Fairs Conference in Hot Springs. Of the categories entered, the fair won nine first-place awards, including for its brochure, map, web advertising and website, as well as two second-place awards for its flyer and promotional merchandise.
“From all over the state of Virginia, over 40 fairs attend the conference,” said Michelle Carter, Franklin County’s tourism projects coordinator. “To receive the number of awards we did for 2018 speaks to our commitment to the Franklin County Agricultural Fair and the impact it has on the community.”
