Bedford County Parks and Recreation hosted its annual Youth Fishing and Outdoor Experience on June 1. More than 150 youth attended this year’s event at Smith Mountain Lake State Park.
Members of Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, SML State Park, SML Marine Volunteer Fire Department, Smith Mountain Striper Club and several other organizations helped provide a fun, educational day for area kids. Activities included canoeing, fishing, paintball, rides on a fire boat and boat safety education.
Through donations from local sponsors, 21 lifetime fishing licenses were awarded to participants through a raffle at the end of the event.
