The first annual Fall Fit Fest was held at Westlake Towne Center on Saturday. More than 50 runners participated in the 5K race that also included an optional obstacle course while others came out for food, games and live music.
“Everything has gone very well,” said Andrea Fansler, director of the Franklin County Family YMCA at Smith Mountain Lake. “We are really glad Mother Nature cooperated.”
The festival is a change from the annual Oktoberfest and 5K Trail Race held the past few years. Both are hosted by The Willard Companies and Franklin County Family YMCA at Smith Mountain Lake.
Similar to Oktoberfest, attendees enjoyed live music from a variety of local acts, including the Junior Appalachian Musicians and Girls Rock Roanoke. Local craft breweries and Brooks Mill Winery also had drinks available to celebrate the fall.
Fansler said the festival will continue to evolve in the coming years. She plans to take what worked at this year’s event, as well as add things from past Oktoberfest events, and continue to grow and evolve the Fall Fit Fest in the coming years.
The winner of the inaugural Fall Fit Fest 5K and obstacle course was Lucas King with a time of 29:35. Emily Jamison was the first place female finisher with a time of 31:25.
The first place finisher in the 5K trail race was Devon Dillon with a time of 19:41. The first place female finisher was Vickie Turner with at time of 25:37.
