After nearly 35 years, Kris Willard recently announced she has sold Interiors By Kris, an interior design and space planning business.

The new owner, Josie Long, will continue to operate the business under its current name and keep the 7,000-square-foot showroom and design center near Westlake Corner.

Willard, who graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in interior design and architecture, is certified by the National Council of Interior Design Qualification, is a longtime member of the American Society of Interior Designers and holds a class A general contractor’s license.

As one of the lake’s first female business owners, Willard expanded her client base across the East Coast to include universities, country clubs, businesses and residential homes.

“This is a bittersweet milestone in my career,” Willard said in a news release announcing the sale of her business. “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the wonderful employees I’ve worked with for nearly 30 years and to the many installers who made it happen. I would also like to thank all the clients who have supported the business and for the many friendships established along the way.”

Willard will remain with Interiors By Kris for one additional year as a consultant.

Long, who earned a degree in interior design from Radford University, completed an internship with Interiors By Kris. She has practiced design in Richmond with Ultimate Builders Services designing and staging homes and worked most recently as a design consultant for Arhaus furniture before relocating to the lake to become Interiors By Kris’ lead designer.

“I am very excited to be a part of Interiors By Kris and this amazing Smith Mountain Lake community,” Long said.

“I look forward to continuing Kris’ legacy of providing detailed spatial planning, architectural drawing development and universal aesthetics that the Interiors By Kris clientele have come to expect.”
