Area musicians will have two chances at winning Lyrics on the Lake’s annual open-mic with the addition of a second competition this year.
The first open-mic competition will be held at at Mango’s Bar and Grill at Bridgewater Plaza on June 10 and will take place every Wednesday through July 22, producing one finalist each week. The weekly finalists will then compete against each other for a cash prize July 29.
The second open-mic will begin Aug. 5 and will take place every Wednesday through Sept. 16, again producing one finalist each week. The weekly finalists will then compete against each other for another cash prize Sept. 23. The two cash prize winners will also perform at the 2020 Smith Mountain Lake Wine Festival.
Registration for each night’s competition will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Mango’s, with competition beginning at 8 p.m. Competitors are urged to register early, because it will be on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited, according to current guidelines for capacity and social distancing.
Attendance will also be limited according to these guidelines, so audience members are also urged to arrive early. More information on limitations can be found on Mango’s Facebook page.
In addition to raising money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals of Central and Southwest Virginia, this year Lyrics on the Lake will also be helping the songwriters and music professionals who have donated so much of their time, talent and resources to assist in these fundraising efforts each year. A portion of this year’s proceeds will go toward providing grants to assist those who are experiencing dire financial hardships due to COVID-19.
