An early morning fire at El Rio restaurant near Westlake Corner caused minor damage Jan. 17.
Fire crews responded to the Mexican restaurant on Scruggs Road around 7:30 a.m. following reports of a fire on the restaurant’s back deck. According to the Scruggs Volunteer Fire and Rescue Facebook page, units arrived to find a small area of the outside deck on fire. The fire was reportedly out by 7:51 a.m.
The fire apparently was caused by an unattended cigarette that caught the back porch on fire, according to reports. The fire caused minor damage to the deck and the building’s exterior.
