One of the lake’s oldest holiday traditions — Santa arriving by boat — will be Nov. 30 at Bridgewater Plaza near Hales Ford Bridge.

The event will be from noon to 3 p.m. with Santa arriving by boat at 1 p.m. and posing for photos at Smith Mountain Lake Coffee House.

“We’re thrilled to be spearheading this awesome SML tradition,” said Kevin Gray, owner of the coffee shop. “Parents and grandparents around the lake love to bring their kids to see Santa, stroll the decks of the plaza, enjoy some food and do some holiday shopping without having to leave Smith Mountain Lake.”

Santa’s arrival also coincides with Small Business Saturday, a national movement that encourages people to shop locally for the holidays.

“By shopping local, you’re providing a boost to businesses that don’t see as much foot traffic this time of year,” Gray said. “It’s vital that we invest in the success of Smith Mountain Lake throughout the year and Small Business Saturday is a great way to reinforce that.”

Santa’s visit is free and open to the public event. Anyone interested in photos with Santa should bring their own camera.
