This year’s judge is Whitney Brock, who paints and teaches in Roanoke, while also maintaining a studio in Moneta.

The 30th annual Smith Mountain Arts Council Art Contest and Show will be held on Oct. 25 to 27 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Moneta. The deadline for entries is Oct. 10.

Cash prizes will be awarded in categories, including oils, acrylics, watercolors, mixed media, other (such as pastels, pencil, glass, sculpture and woodworking) and students (age 18 and younger).

This year’s judge is Whitney Brock, who paints and teaches in Roanoke, while also maintaining a studio in Moneta. Brock’s art journey began in New Zealand; later she attended Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts.

After working in the residential and commercial mural painting business, Brock transitioned to a full-time studio painter. Her work has been featured in International Artist magazine and honored at both juried and invitational shows.

There will be an opening reception and presentation of awards on Oct. 25 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Artwork will be available for viewing on Oct. 26 from 10 to 4 p.m. and Oct. 27 from noon to 3 p.m.
