Thanks for supporting the Discovery Shop
I want to thank all of our volunteers, shoppers and donors for their support of the Discovery Shop at SML. I am honored to have been on the original team that opened the shop in 2004. And now, 15 years later, as I again step down as a co-manager, I am so proud of what our shop has accomplished:
* Nearly $3.5 million donated to the American Cancer Society.
* Still the only shop in the nation with no paid staff.
* Added our annex two years ago thanks to our very generous donors.
But most of all, I feel we have been a positive resource for this community. We have created a safe and friendly environment for those going through cancer and those affected by cancer of a loved one. Our support groups and information corner are free to all. We are here for you.
A big thank you to Jim McKelvey and Judy Hodges for their support. They are landlord and administrator “extraordinaire!” We also thank others for their ongoing support, including Homestead Creamery and Deb Beran.
Finally, I would encourage everyone, especially new members of our community, to consider volunteering at the Discovery Shop and Annex. It’s a wonderful way to meet people and it truly is a team effort. Call 721-0050 for more information and mark Nov. 7 on your calendar for the Fall Market at the Annex.
