The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has released more details on a body found in the Windy Gap community on Oct. 24.

The body of Travis Wayne Pannell, 30, of Halifax was found around 1:30 p.m. in the 7900 block of Jubal Early Highway (Virginia 116). He had been reported missing in Roanoke on Oct. 8 after having last been seen four days earlier, according to a news release from Capt. Phillip Young.

The medical examiner’s office said that Pannell’s death was a homicide and that he died from gunshot wounds, Young said in the release.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, the sheriff’s office does not believe that the residents in and around where the body was located are in any danger,” Young said in the release.

The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available, Young said.
